My story
I was born in Hobart, Tasmania – as a child I lived in both Hobart and Launceston. I attended the Hobart High School for my secondary education. When I left school I worked in a bank for a short period but quickly realised that banking was not the career I wanted – instead, I wanted to be a nurse so I began my nursing training at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
I have had a fulfilling career in health – gaining experience from the operating theatre; to aged care; to midwifery and child health. I became a Director of Nursing for Child Health and later achieved a Graduate Diploma of Business in Professional Management and moved on to manage a large program in the health department.
When I retired from employment I wondered what I could do as I felt that I still had so much to give – I wanted to continue to work with people and families at significant times in their lives. It is what I do well – it is a privilege to do so and it is wonderfully rewarding.
In 2004 I became a registered marriage celebrant, bringing together all my skills and life experiences as a wife and mother, nurse and manager, to enhance the celebrant role.
I have officiated at many ceremonies in this time and every one of them, whether it is a marriage, a naming ceremony or a funeral, is special to me. I love what I do; I give freely of my time, my energy, my knowledge and my skills, because I believe I can make a difference.
There is nothing that gives me greater satisfaction than to achieve the best possible outcome for the couples or families I am working with.
The keystones of my celebrant work are:
-
Creative application of knowledge and skills, ensuring my celebrant work is not only professional and thoughtful but that it adheres to legal Acts and Codes of Practice as set down by the Attorney General’s Department.
-
Attention to detail to achieve the special 'touches’ that make for lasting memories.
-
Skills in ceremony writing and public speaking, enabling me to present ceremonies that have clarity, personality and impact.
-
Incorporation of technology that is subtle and effective.
