Symbolism in ceremonies
A symbolic element to your ceremony offers a wonderful and individual way to celebrate, remember and treasure your special and important day.
Symbolic acts or rituals mark a moment in time; they help us express our thoughts and joys – they help us heighten the emotions felt during the ceremony and most of all they help us to enhance the meaning of the ceremony.
I have worked with couples to incorporate the following symbolic acts/rituals into their ceremonies – and when we meet we can discuss any one of them in more detail:
- A wine toast for the bride and groom
- The Celtic tradition of 'handfasting'
- A wine ceremony that involves members of the family
- A rose ceremony – this can be either an exchange of a rose between the couple or the offering of a rose to significant people attending the ceremony.
- Sharing a traditional 'sake' drink together
- Watering a special and meaningful plant/shrub
- A sand ceremony
- The tradition of jumping over the 'broom' into a life together.
- Placing messages from family and friends, a bottle of wine/champagne and other memorabilia into a 'time capsule' to be opened, for example, on an anniversary
- Planting a tree
- Pebbles
There are many more symbolic acts that you may like to incorporate into your marriage ceremony. I can assist you to find the one you want – additionally consider researching the internet as this will give you access to many more and different ceremonies that might appeal.
A symbolic element to a ceremony can certainly be very special – but the symbolism has to be meaningful and right for you both! I look forward to discussing the possibilities with you.
